ONDCP 'ABOVE THE INFLUENCE' ADS RANKED AMONG 'MOST LIKED' OF 2006
**Prestigious AdAge Annual Issue Ranks Two Teen Anti-Drug Ads in the Top
20**
Two television advertisements for "Above the Influence," the teen
anti-drug brand launched by the White House Office of National Drug
Control Policy's
(ONDCP) National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign, have been named among
the top 20 "most liked ads of 2006," as ranked by the industry trade
publication AdvertisingAge in its AdAge annual issue. ONDCP is among
only a handful of other advertisers to have two spots ranked in AdAge's
year-end Top 20, including FedEx and M&M's, among others.
The ad "Little Brother" ranked eighth overall, while "Whatever" placed
eleventh. The "Little Brother" ad demonstrates the positive influence
older teens can have on their younger siblings by teaching drug refusal
skills, and "Whatever" shows the impact marijuana use can have on teens'
lives, focusing on the fact that smoking weed can result in missing out
on many opportunities.
Launched in November 2005, "Above the Influence" employs a series of
advertisements and a Web site, www.AbovetheInfluence.com, to challenge
teens to live above the negative pressures in their lives. The brand
encourages youth to resist drug use by rejecting negative influences and
empowers them to make positive choices. Indeed, the latest national
survey on teen drug use trends, released last month, shows that overall
illicit drug use among teens has dropped by 23 percent since 2001. And
marijuana use - the most commonly used illicit drug among teens - also
fell by 25 percent in those five years.
The Above the Influence Web site and advertising media plan have
received numerous industry awards and recognition for innovation and
effectiveness during the past year.
